Hillman Cooperative

Welcome to the Lower East Side

Hillman is a tranquil residential co-op on Grand Street in Manhattan’s vibrant and historic Lower East Side. Founded in the late 1940s as part of a vision to improve urban living through cooperation and community, Hillman is composed of three blocks of buildings  – the 500, 530, and 550 blocks, on Willett, Columbia, and Lewis Streets – linked by shared gardens and playground spaces.

Named in honor of the influential 20th-century labor leader Sidney Hillman, the cooperative reflects a long-standing commitment to fairness, shared responsibility, and community life—values that continue to shape Hillman today.
